NEW FOR 2021
With the introduction of the Purbeck Ultra in 2019 we had great feedback and will again be putting on ann Ultra for 2021.
With the Tyneham ranges closed thisn year we have had to alter the Marathon route which means that we have also altered the Ultra route.
The Ultra now consists of the marathon followed byt the Purbeck 16, in actual fact a bit over 45miles. So more achievable for more people.
Making good use of the existing marathon course with plenty of fully stocked aid stations, fully signed and marshalled this Ultra will give you all the support you need.
The Purbeck Ultra starts and finishes in Swanage and you’ll pass along the sea front at your halfway point.
From the Downs overlooking the beach, it heads towards Durlston Country Park and the Jurassic coast path, before going through the villages of Worth Matravers and Kingston. It then heads towards Swyre Head, to pass Heavens Gate and along the ridge towards Tyneham Cap. From here it leaves the coast path and runs through the deserted village of Tyneham. The route then continues up onto and along the ridge of the Purbeck Hills towards Corfe Castle, to pass below the battlements of this 11th century castle and into the village square. The route then returns to the hill Ridgeway and heads towards Swanage, where you will start it all again.
The entire route has spectacular views which will help to combat fatigue. Weather permitting there will also be stunning views of Portland, Poole Harbour and the Isle of Wight. The Purbeck Ultra has a number of hard climbs and uneven paths but is signposted and marshalled throughout. It is tough, but where else can you do your post race icing by going for a swim in the sea?!
There is a time limit of 14 hours, with progressive course closures, so please bear this, and the course profile in mind when applying.
Please see out compulsory equipment list here.
The Purbeck Ultra is part of The Purbeck Running Festival – a local community event, put on by volunteers, with the proceeds being distributed to charity.
So far we have donated over £16,000 to charity. With your help we can increase that even further in 2019!
The Purbeck Marathon sold out in 2016, meaning there were a lot of disappointed runners. Don’t miss out on your 2019 place – get an entry in now!
